This Is Horror – Best Cover Art Nominees (and covers)

The rather lovely fellows over at This is Horror just announced the nominees for this year’s This is Horror Awards. The categories are numerous and the books and stories are all very worthy.

Also, and I think this is rather unusual for an award, they actually give readers a whole month to get their votes in, which means we have plenty of time to, you know, read the nominated books.

Lucky for us, there’s a whole category for people who just like to look at things and pass judgement.

*drum roll*

Cover Art of the Year!

As you know, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about book covers, as it will soon be time to make choices about the cover for my own upcoming book (September 24th, whaat?).

AAAAAAAAND seeing as the fellows over at This is Horror didn’t actually include images for their best cover category I just went and did it for them.

So here they are, the five books nominated for best cover art.

Matthew Revert for Antioch by Jessica Leonard

Mike Davis for grotesquerie by Richard Gavin

Mikio Murakami for The Best of Both Worlds by S.P. Miskowski

Stephen Mackey for Thin Places by Kay Chronister

Todd Keisling for Arterial Bloom, edited by Mercedes M. Yardley

So, if nothing else, I urge you to send them your voet for best cover.

As they say on the site:

“Please send your votes to with the subject line ‘Awards 2020’. To cast a vote simply write the category and your vote for each award. You may vote for your top two in each category. For example:

1. First choice
2. Second choice”

Also, don’t forget to check them out on Spotify (or wherever you go to put podcasts into your ears).

Success! You're on the list.
