I am going to tell you something about the plan I have for the book I have coming out in September. But first… some background info.
I’ve been working on a book for a few years, on and off. With work and kids and everything else it was a bit of a slog to complete. But I got lucky. (Also, big shout-out to #5amWritersClub on Twitter for the early morning writing sessions).
During the summer of 2019 I was awarded a week-long writing residency in Exeter (pretty town in the U.K.) to finish the book. I used the time well and was able to finish a good second draft of the book.
Following that I landed a book deal with Headshot Books.
WHITESANDS will be published in the U.S. in September this year and I am, naturally, very excited.
Headshot books is an offshot of Bloodshot Books, headed by the talented mountain of charisma, Pete Kahle.
While Bloodshot is a publisher focusing on horror, Headshot puts an emphasis on noir-ish supernatural thrillers. Which I just happened to write.
WHITESANDS is about a detective, John Dark, who is searching for his daughter, now missing for two years. In a frantic search for her, he abused his position and resources with the police and was reprimanded and demoted. We join him and his partner, Monique Moreno, as they unexpectedly get put back on a homicide case.
The book opens as they are investigating the murder of Ellen Stillwater, who was apparently killed in her home by her husband. However, he claims to remember nothing other than a strange dark man in the house. John and Monique investigate the scene, only to discover something neither has ever seen before.
Just as Detective John Dark gets put back into the homicide unit he gets a new lead into his daughter’s disappearance.
WHITESANDS will be published in the U.S. by Headshot Books in September 2021. Ready your wallets.
But that’s not all I wanted to say…
I’m going to get the book made into a Netflix series.
(This part, however, is not signed or even in the works in any way, just to be clear. It’s a goal.)
I am going to document everything from the completion and publication of the book (editing, publication delays, cover reveal, marketing, reviews….) to my attempt at getting into Netflix; writing the series script, agent hunting, pitching to Netflix and, hopefully, eventual filming and premiering.
And I want YOU to join me as I make this Netflix goal a reality.
